Stop Sexting. It Is A Crime.

Hey there fans,

A serious situation has been brought to our attention. It seems that kids and teens are sending each other pictures of themselves without clothes. The practice is called Sexting.

We would like to encourage all teens to refrain from doing this. Sexting is a crime. The penalties are high and we are sure you do not wish to get into any trouble with the law over it.

So you say “I am a kid and I am sending this to my friends who are the same age as me. It is me taking the pictures, so the law can’t do anything about it.”. It makes no difference. If the law would find these pictures that you send then you will be charged with manufacturing and distributing child porn. You will be arrested and sent either to jail or a juvenile detention facility. You will go to trial in a court of law.

Not only will you be in trouble, the people you sent it to can be charged with possession of child porn. So not only are you hurting yourself, you are also putting your friends in a bad position legally. You could be  harming them as well.

You say “I do not believe this and never heard of kids being charged for this”  We can tell you that there have been cases where kids have been charged. Not too long ago a girl about age 15 sent a text message to all her classmates and teachers over their cel phones. She was completely  nude in the picture that she sent. Someone alerted the police and this young lady was arrested and charged with manufacturing and distributing child porn. The law was also going to charge everyone of her classmates and the teachers with possession of child porn as well. The charges against the classmates and teachers were eventually dropped as the pictures were sent by this young lady unsolicited by the receivers. She on the other hand pleaded guilty to child porn manufacturing and distribution. As part of the plea bargain she was given 3 years probation and was not listed on the FBI’s list of registered sex offenders. So because you are under 18 does not give you a get out of jail free card. As a child you are not above the law. The laws where this is concerned apply equally to adults as well as children.

On another note, you guys have to be aware that even if you are not caught by the police, there is the matter of your reputation. What if you sent a nude picture of yourself to your current boyfriend and things go sour in the relationship. Now he has nude pics of you that he might post on the internet. This could and probably would ruin your reputation as millions of people will see those pics. If your reputation is ruined so could any dreams that you may have for the future. You might want to be a Disney Star someday. Let say you audition and they give you a part. Just imagine that your dream has come true. Then before you are able to sign a contract with them, they find these pics posted somewhere. They could not have a star in their stable that had something like that floating around on the  internet. Your dream is over before it began.

So please read this and stop doing these sort of things for your own good and the good of every one of your friends.

This public service announcement is brought to you by Disney InfoNet and the Disney Stars.
