Singer Selena Gomez hosted a live video webcast Thursday Oct.29, 209 at 7 p.m. EST (4 p.m. PST) in an effort to encourage her fans to help her reach her goal of raising $1 million for UNICEF by the end of 2009.
A UNICEF ambassador since 2008, the 17-year-old’s current fundraising efforts include the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign, which raises funds for healthcare and education programs in the U.S. To participate, fundraisers visit homes with an orange collection box to solicit donations — not candy — when trick-or-treating on Halloween.
During Gomez’s Thursday October 29, 2009 USTREAM.tv chat, she will revealed that the top three fundraisers who participate in the Trick or Treat for UNICEF program (as of Nov. 30) will receive a personal phone call, an autographed photo and an official UNICEF certificate of appreciation.
Gomez also shared stories from her UNICEF-sponsored trip to Ghana, Africa, earlier this year.
In an Oct. 22 post on her Facebook fan page, Gomez reported she and her fans have raised more than $45,000 to date.
